Vale Strether Smith

In memory of our dear friend Strether Smith, who passed in October 2024.

Strether was a true gentleman—thoughtful, curious, and always willing to share his knowledge. Through his many contributions to the enDAQ blog, he helped educate and inspire others in the shock and vibration community, where he was deeply respected not only for his expertise, but for his kindness and humility.

Beyond his professional contributions, Strether shared a profound love of nature with his wife, Tommi. Together, they dedicated decades of service to the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, introducing young students to the natural world, leading hikes, and helping others experience the quiet beauty of open spaces. Their commitment reflected a deep belief in protecting the environment for the benefit of all.

In honor of Strether and Tommi, and in the spirit of what mattered most to them, we have made a contribution to the parklands they cherished. It is offered quietly and with appreciation—for their example, their generosity, and the lasting impact they have left on both their community and the natural places they loved.

Their legacy lives on in every trail walked, every landscape preserved, and in the many lives they touched along the way.
